The Social Science Research team espouses and actively promotes interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies both in the study of environmental issues and the technological solutions aimed at tackling them. Its members place particular emphasis on the intrinsic value of analyzing existing as well as emerging societal attitudes prior or parallel to the full development of the appropriate technological solutions. This strategic priority aims to inform policy implementation by providing the required input that is considered necessary in order to smooth the future adoption of technological applications by prospective users. The team is furnished with competences in three main areas which are particularly valuable in designing a holistic and interconnected socio-technological approach: policy framework analysis and implementation issues, analysis of data concerning opinion research and social attitudes, and, last but not least, expert support for evaluating the techno-economic aspects arising from the alternative solutions offered by the fellow lab scientists of the other teams.
